Some thoughts from Scotland’s winning return to the World Cup
Hello everyone
A certified fresh weekend then. My rebranding launch for Saturday didn’t quite go to plan due to some technical shenanigans but things will change and evolve through the week. It’s exciting, you’ll like it.
Let’s focus on Saturday night / Sunday morning. A match packed with a single goal and not much incident BUT three gigantic points for Scotland.
In a bit of a change of plan, me and Mrs W headed through to Glasgow’s OVO Hydro to watch the game and do some live drawing at the FanZone. My daughters went down to The Pitt in Leith originally before changing their mind and heading to the watch party at our local pub.
There was some kind of microcosmic Pundit Club at the Hydro as a well lubricated Charlie Mulgrew chatted with Silver Fox Rob McLean, Des Clarke and Beth Just Beth.
Insightful.
The game itself was nervy and lacking quality. Thankfully John McGinn managed to pinball one in the pokey.
There were two ways of looking at the game. On the one hand….
But on the other….
International football is only really about results. It’s hard to say that Scotland have performed in any tournament game under Steve Clarke. The 0-0 with England is probably the stand out. All the big names had poor games as they did at Euro24 which is a bit concerning. But we got the three points and if we can at least keep the back door difficult to breach we could get out the group.
What were your thoughts?
My sleep pattern is completely screwed because I stayed up for the Australia game after getting back from Glasgow and did the same last night to watch Sweden demolish Tunisia. Not sure I’m going to keep that run going tonight.
Cheers
Keith
