Issue number 8 and I’m already bored of writing numbers. Next week this’ll no doubt be called The Friday Stickler.

Thanks as always for subscribing. If you can manage, please consider taking out a paid subscription so I can keep drawing for you all.

A commission for an Aberdeen legend

Last week I was buzzing to be commissioned by Aberdeen to draw a tribute to present to Gothenburg Great and all around AFC hero Neil Simpson as he leaves the club after 35 years of service. I drew Simmy’s goal against Waterschei in the 1983 Cup Winners Cup semi final at Pittodrie. On top of that were portraits of Neil in ‘83, as a young Scotland cap and as head of the Academy. Here’s a picture of the man himself with the framed print.

Here’s a better view of the Waterschei goal. Simmy picks off an errant pass, avoids a two footed lunge and then rifles a shot on goal that the keeper can’t stop. Love the wee celebration as well.

Thanks for everything Simmy.

Before we start on the football preview here’s a cartoon on the repercussions of rioting and looting. Arseholes.

The weekend’s football

After last week’s jamboree of four live Sky games we have Premier Sports dipping their toe into live league coverage. In their Cup coverage Premier are notorious for choosing Celtic and Rangers games regardless of the opposition but of course it’s different in the league as Sky are all over them like a rash. I like talking about commentators and pundits so I’ll look at that in the coming weeks but it’ll be interesting to see who’s on the PS ticket. The dynamic duo of Emma Dodds and Rory Hamilton are a given, Michael Stewart probably, I’ve got a feeling there’ll be a dollop of Stephen ‘Hard Yards’ Craigan and for some reason they have an obsession with giving us Alan Hutton.

Premier Sports are also giving us the Social Club on a Monday night and it’s great to see Darrell Currie back and presenting this.

Worth also sharing that the Willy Hill SPFL is doing a weekly preview show on You Tube every Friday. Good to see these shows getting added to the rota. They can thank me later for the free advertising.

This week’s Premier Sports fare is a 5.30 Saturday kick off for Dundee v Hearts. Stevie Naismith and his staff have just announced contract extensions, a sure sign of impending doom. Let’s hope he doesn’t wear that beige top again.

Before that we have the absolute joy of Rangers v Motherwell from Hampden. As Ibrox remains dismantled for a few more weeks it’s time to redecorate the national stadium. How’s that going?

Hibs are much changed for the arrival of Celtic on Sunday. After last week’s shambolic performance and result at St Mirren the knees have been well and truly jerked in Leith. CEO Ben Kensell will tell us to trust the process but there’s a fair whiff of panic about the whole thing. Make your own mind up about each of this week’s signings.

Club badges 2.0

You’ll know by now I find it difficult not to tinker or change my mind about things. I shared some club badges I’d put together on Wednesday for the power rankings and I’m already playing around with them.

These badges are available on standard and premium t-shirts, mugs and coasters at my shop - Fitbatweets.com

Here’s little bit more about my thought process behind the badges.
