The Stickler #6
Monday review of the Premiership action, the 100 metres and a hair loss solution
Welcome to issue 6 of The Stickler. I hope you enjoyed the season preview that came out on Friday night / Saturday morning. That was my first post behind the paywall so thanks to everyone who upgraded their subscription. I can’t do this without your support.
I’m getting a feel for the flow of The Stickler and this is how I see it going now:
Monday - review of the weekend action.
Wednesday - I’ll unleash The Sticker POWER RANKINGS. Yes, it’s very American but I’ve always loved them and I thought that instead of making a prediction at the start of the season we’ll follow progress throughout the season and they can discussed and disputed in the comments. It’ll be a laugh. We’ll also cover any midweek shenanigans in the Wednesday edition.
Friday - a look ahead to the weekend.
I’m going to try and publish earlier in the day, say about midday UK time.
The league football is back!
The cinch is now the Willy Hilly. Apart from that everything seemed familiar. Very familiar. Too familiar.
Sky are giving us four games for the opening weekend. Everything about their presentation is the same as last season and after this opening weekend so will their game selections. Genuinely Sky show the dullest games possible and we watch in the hope of a rare upset.
Pundit wise, the ugly sisters of Boyd and Sutton are back along with erstwhile fence sitter James McFadden. Eilidh Barbour does her usual solid job of putting up with their shite. In the commentary box we had Ian Crocker and Neil McCann. Crocker has the easiest job in football commentary because he covers Rangers and Celtic so much he only has to research one team each week. McCann is a new one for Sky and pulled a double shift (a man’s got to pay his taxes). I don’t mind him too much and he’s not Kenny Miller so that’s something. Regardless I pressed the mute button throughout.
“Are you not underwhelmed?” asked Russell Crowe after watching two goalless draws on Saturday. The highlight of Hearts v Rangers was Hearts not getting a penalty for a handball that would definitely be given last year. I asked Connor about it….
Fair enough. Although I thought Hearts were the better team, a draw was about fair in the end. Only one new name on the starting team sheet for Rangers. Fans are entitled to think this is going to be a difficult season for them. Motherwell and Ross County also spewed up a 0-0 and I offer no thoughts on that borefest.
