I’m going all tabloidy headline today. I do like a laugh at a pun so why not.

It’s well recognised that AI is a problem for illustrators and graphic designers as businesses choose the cheaper, faster, more convenient option rather than commission an actual person. Across the socials I’m seeing more and more AI generated cartoons and illustrations seeping into the football world. Wouldn’t I rather see a football illustration or cartoon that’s AI generated than none at all? Absolutely not. It’s pretty disheartening and a wee bit painful to be honest. Like being jabbed in the side by a bony finger. You know how sore that is.
It’s never been more important to support the talented artists who put the time, effort and their hard earned skills into their work. There are some brilliant football illustrators out there. Now, I might not have the drawing skills of most but I put a ton of energy into Fitbatweets every day. Sometimes it feels like it’s all for very little but I keep chipping away. I’m not exaggerating when I say your support really does mean everything.
And fuck AI images.
It’s the start of three days of UEFA playoff action for the four remaining Scottish teams. First up are the Rangers at home to Club Brugge. Russell Martin told reporters he’s doing well despite his initial struggles with the Bears.

The SWPL kicked off its new campaign on Sunday. Everything went as expected which is largely the problem. Plenty of skuddings when the full timers take on the part timers but on the flip side the games between the big four (or five if you include Hearts) are super important and the league consistently brings the drama at the business end.
Rangers stuck six past Montrose (check the Montrose goal out, it’s a beauty) to the delight of new boss Leanne Crichton.
