A Haunting in Leith
Rangers close the gap and Falkirk continue to impress
Hello
An afternoon post as I had family things to do this morning.
Quick aside - I’m posting a bit more on notes now for things that require a timely cartoon, for example yesterday’s sad passing of John Virgo. These are posted on Twitter and Instagram stories sometimes too but if you’re not on either of them then make sure and get the Substack app. They are making big improvements to it all the time so worth a go.
Poor show I think on the postponements yesterday, especially Pittodrie. A bit of mud in the goalmouth is fine. It’s not like either keeper goes there and it’s the same for both sides. If player safety is the issue then I’d rather land on the grass than the solid artificial surface at Kilmarnock if you know what I mean. Football is an outdoor sport to be played in the elements. I think. Maybe you disagree.
There was a haunting in Leith last night. I’ll never forget Jim Goodwin’s last game in charge of Aberdeen. I’ve never in my life seen a team down tools like the Dons players did that day and to be up close to a manager that knew the players weren’t listening and looked completely helpless and powerless was quite something. As much as his dismissal was right and necessary I did really feel for him in that moment. Since then, any time Jim comes back to Easter Road things do not go well. And so it was that Dundee United lost 3-2 in the 93rd thanks to more terrible defending and Ante Suto’s sublime header.
Jim looked across to the far corner in disbelief…..then terror.
