A different kind of pressure as focus turns to the Cup
Also, we need to talk about Kevin. And all the other refs. Again. Sorry.
Hello
Always busy on a Friday and today is packed as we have four juicy Premier Sports Cup quarter finals.
First a subscription announcement. I’ve dropped the annual price to £20 a year. As I’ve said before I want to reach as many people as possible whilst being mindful of how tight money is for most people nowadays (including football cartoonists). Some of you will have paid more and I hope that that still feels like value because in all honestly £20 is ridiculously cheap for what you get.
Please, if you can, take out an annual Fitbatweets subscription. You won’t regret it.
Before we get to the actual football I want to talk about officiating again. In more embarrassing news for Willie Collum and friends the KMI panel ruled against the penalty Leith were given after VAR intervention. This game was the day after the much publicised VAR review show where Willie told us about the higher bar directive for handball. Obviously that message doesn’t actually cut through to the match officials in his charge.
Kevin Clancy was the hapless assistant VAR official for the non penalty call in Leith’s previous game with Paisley Saints. Listening to the audio is painful as he bumbles about. What’s worse is that Kevin also gives that stumbling performance in his day job in hospital orthopaedics.
Yes, those are all quotes from the VAR audio. Kevin has been rewarded with refereeing the Partick Thistle v Celtic cup game. Says it all doesn’t it.
Okay, fuck all that, let’s look ahead to the weekend fitba in……
We’ve got a league and cup double header tonight. In the Championship BBC game it’s league leaders Perth Saints at home to Neil Lennon’s Dunfermline. The Pars have a secret weapon in their young goalscoring machine Andrew Tod of The Tod Brothers.
A hat trick last week, what’ll it be tonight. Probably nowt.
The first of the Premier Sports QFs is on their internet player.
